Summer University

If there is August and I am in Pécs, I think on the Hungarian Language and Culture Summer University. In this year it was the 11., for me the 3. that I could participate as teacher. Although I started to teach in the second two weeks (before I was in Regensburg as lecturer), I had many wonderfull experiences.

In the group, which I teached, were the boys exceptionally who dominated. I teached Hungarian language for a Turkish, a Japanese, a Dutch and an Egyptian man, and to a German woman. As the students came from very different cultures, all topics were very amazing. For example, as we learned the topic family, we could see very different family trees from the students. Of course the students had in the third lesson bit less energy, but they could explain it to me in Hungarian: “Fáradt vagyok.” “Éhes vagyok.” “Enni akarok.” And with some good Hungarian music, tejföl-tasting, Sport-szelet (a Hungarian chocolate) or games I could managed to make them motivated to learn Hungarian. So I hope, they learned also in that third lesson a lot about Hungarian language and culture.

It is always good see how these people from so different countries became a community during the four weeks. And in this year the presnt, that the students gave us teachers, was a very good example for that: it was a photo with all members of the summer university at the big 2010 sculpture at the Pollack Mihály Technical Faculty. I promise, I will keep this picture!

And I have some photos about the group, taken by one of my students:

So thank you dear students for that amazing two weeks! I hope you will go on with learning Hungarian!
