Who was learning Hungarian at me?

I am working as a teacher of Hungarian as a foreign language for 5 years. Since then were learning students of several nationalities at me. German (31), French (20), Czech (7), Finn (7), Turk (6) people, but I had among others a student from New-Zealand, from South-Korea and from Canada too.

I want by no means categorize the nationalities according to the question: Who can learn easier Hungarian? The clue to the situation is by every person different, and we need to find to understand each other. It is good, when I can notice which nationality learns these easier in the language and those is more difficult for them. I have to know when we can step easily forward, and when we need more time for practice. It is very exciting for me to teach Hungarian to these people from very different cultures.

I was curious, from which countries came my students, so I made a little statistics:

It is not by accident, that most of my students were Germans, because I speak very well German and I am belonging to the German minority in Hungary, so this culture is very near to me. But I was also very suprised that I really teached so many French people. I think that this shows the persistance and enthusiasm of the French. I also had a lot of students from neighbouring countries. I am really happy about that, because I also learn a lot from them – how they see the Hungarians and what are the similarities in our cultures. And they are usually very happy for example because of the Slavic words in the Hungarian language: málna, káposzta, ribizli etc.

I am very glad that I could teach all these people, and I am in contact also today with lot of my students. I am curious which nationalities I am going to teach in the next years! For example now I am also teaching a student from Costa Rica!
